GUWAHATI: The All Assam Law Students’ Union demonstrated with the Nagarik Samaj against the CAA (Citizenship Amendment Act) at Guwahati Club along with the demand to release Shrinkhal Chaliha, Amitabh Sarma, Dharya Konwar and Akhil Gogoi.

The students' community, leaders of different organizations, intellectuals, artistes and people from every walk of life joined the demonstration against the CAA and said that Assam will never accept the anti-Assam Act.

Participating the demonstration actress Barsharani Bishoya said, “Every indigenous Assamese who love Assam and understand that Assamese have no place in other parts except Assam will have to carry this movement till we achieve success. Today is the first day of the English New Year where everyone was supposed to enjoy welcoming the New Year. However, here we are witnessing a different picture where students are coming in to protest so as to safeguard the land.”

AJYCP general secretary Palash Changmai said, “On behalf of the AJYCP I appeal for release of those arrested in the anti-CAA protest. Each one of us should protest against government’s act of backstabbing to mute the voice of protestors. If we minutely observe this movement we’ll see that from time to time the government has been trying to tag this movement with different nature.”

Changmai further said, “The government has also tried the politics of division by announcing different schemes and agreeing to the demands raised by different tribes and communities. But yet the government has failed, because the leaders and the people belonging to those ethnic groups and community have announced that no power can be the answer to the CAA. We’ve taken some wrong political decisions that have pushed us to the streets to fight for our identity. Eelecting the BJP government was one of the mistakes that we’ve committed. This time people have awaken and we must turn it into public-awareness, or else Assamese identity will surely face a critical situation.”

Meanwhile, the Axam Xahitya Xabha(AXX) too staged protest against the CAA in front of AXX office in Guwahati.
