GUWAHATI: The All Assam Students' Union (AASU) has termed the Assam Higher Secondary Education Council's (AHSEC) decision to drop the 'Bihu' as an elective subject of the higher secondary curriculum as an assault on Assamese pride and asserted that they will never allow this decision to be implemented. AASU general secretary Sankor Jyoti Baruah said on Saturday that the AHSEC needs to explain the reason behind this anti-Assamese decision.
It may be mentioned that the AHSEC had introduced 'Bihu' as an elective subject in the 2020-2021acdemic session. Students who chose this subject had to sit for a 100-mark examination which included both theory and practical sections. However, the AHSEC decided to drop this subject at a meeting held on February 7 last.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on Saturday that the History and Geography subjects would be introduced for Class-IX and Class-X from the next academic session.
