GUWAHATI: The Assam Livestock and Poultry Corporation (ALPCO) distributed chicks among 200 trainees at a programme held on its premises on Wednesday.
The people were trained under the aegis of the ALPCOand theinitative aims to improve their livelihood.
"The foundation of the State's independent rural economy will be laid with animal rearing. If the rural economy is developed than only the State's economy will become stronger," said Minister for Agriculture and Veterinary Atul Bora while addressing the programme.
Bora stressed on the importance of the local farmers getting fair price for their produce in the State markets. He also emphasized that the State markets should be under the control of the locals. He also briefed about various schemes that the government has introduced for the animal rearers.
"The gap between the Animal Husbandry department and the animal rearers will be removed and it will become a public department," said Bora.
He added that the department has appointed 110 veterinary doctors and on December 18, appointment letters will be presented to 220 field assistants. ALPCO chairman Manoj Saikia in his address said, "Over 15,000 people have been trained under the aegis of ALPCO and around 4,000 have been established. Cattle sale centres have been established in various areas of the State including Guwahati."
