GUWAHATI: With the constant rise in COVID-19 patients, the Assam Health Department has decided to increase the number of ambulance fleets available in the state.
Speaking to The Sentinel an official at the NHM, Assam stated that seat capacity of the "Sarathi 104" and vehicles of "Adoroni" will be increased soon.
On the other hand, an official at the 108 ambulance service said, "Currently in Assam 810 ambulances are available which includes 7 boats and out of which 220 vehicles are currently on COVID-19 duty."
Further, the official added that in the month of February 2020, the Health Department procured an additional 100 ambulances in the fleet of 108 services. However, around 150 ambulances are off-road due to maintenance issues.
Apart from 108 services, another fleet of ambulance services provided by the "Adoroni" has around 100 vehicles which are providing service in the entire state.
Meanwhile, from 20th March 2020 till 16th May 2021, 139125 COVID-19 patients have got the service from 108 ambulances.
Notably, the state government to handle the effective flow work of the rising number of COVID-19 patients undertaking home isolation the NHM, Assam has self processed to increase the number of "Sarathi 104" ambulance services in the state by 100 seats.
With this regards all the deputy commissioners of the respective districts will take up necessary steps. Further, in the view of increase in lot of COVID positive cases, the necessity of timely shifting of patients to the COVID Care Centres is important; hence 50 "Adoroni" ambulance vehicles have been additionally allotted for the service.
Currently in Assam, since the inception of COVID-19 cases (first wave) till May 16th, 2021, 2179 people have succumbed to this infection. Further COVID-19 positive patients who have lost their lives for other reasons sums to 1347.
On the other till now the COVID-19 positive cases stands at 328629 since last year. On May 16, 2021, 3650 positive cases were detected in the state with 56 deaths and active cases stands at 43377.
