DIMORIA: Various Amri Karbi organizations of Dimoria are protesting against the Tiwa Autonomous Council (TAC) election that will be held on December 17.
The election will be held on December 17 in 36 constituencies under the TAC out of which six are under Kamrup Metro district. After the election dates were announced, the Amri Karbi bodies have been demanding that elections should not be held in the constituencies under Kamrup Metro.
To show their resentment against the election, seven Amri Karbi bodies including Amri Karbi Students' Union on Monday blocked the NH-37 along the Phong Ari area of Sonapur. Commuters were stranded on the highway after it was blocked for two hours by the protestors. The situation was neutralized after Guwahati Police Commissioner visited the spot and assured the protestors that a meeting will be scheduled with the Chief Minister office on November 25.
