GUWAHATI: Lions Club of Gauhati Greater along with National Health Mission Assam has taken up a life saving project during this time of pandemic to save lives by mobilizing donors for blood plasma by those persons who had tested positive of COVID-19 and recovered fully. Such persons are requested to voluntarily donate their plasma at Guwahati Medical Hospital Blood Bank Bhangagarh, Guwahati.
The club will facilitate transportation of such persons to and fro from donors' residence to GMCH Blood Bank and help them to complete the formalities of plasma donation. The club has also decided to pay Rs 5,000 through account payee cheque to doner as a cost of his one month ration and immunity boosting food. A cheque of Rs 5,000 shall be handed over to the doner on completion of formalities for plasma donation.
The criteria for donors is as below:
The plasma doner should be COVID positive and has completed 28 days from his test report.
The doner should be healthy and should not suffering from any major illness.
Blood test shall be done at GMCH to find the suitability of the Donor for Plasma Donation.
The doner blood sample will also be tested for antigen test and only if good results of antigen found in blood the plasma will be taken.
After taking out plasma the blood is reinfused in body by the blood bank so that the patient will not lose any important components of blood.
The blood plasma is taken from doners blood only when he is otherwise found competent to donate after the tests done as per GMCH guidelines.
