GUWAHATI: Anganwadi workers and helpers have demanded the government to reconsider its decision to close down Anganwadi centres across the State.
Activists of the All Assam Anganwadi Employees' Federation (AAAEF) on Monday staged a dharna in front of the Directorate of Social Welfare in the city in support of their 13-point charter of demands and later submitted a memorandum to the Assam Government through the Director of Social Welfare.
Among the various demands, AAAEF has demanded the State Government to reconsider its decision to close down the Anganwadi centres and mini Anganwadi centres and also to reconsider its decision to stop the Integrated Child Development Scheme (ICDS).
The Federation has also demanded infrastructural development of the Anganwadi centres, to recognize the Anganwadi workers as government employees, to give them a monthly salary of Rs 25,000 and to appoint Anganwadi helpers in vacant posts of Anganwadi workers. The Federation has threatened to launch a Statewide agitation from January 4, 2022, if their demands are not fulfilled.
