GUWAHATI: More than a hundred Anganwadi workers and helpers staged a protest in front of the Meghdoot Bhavan here on Monday to demand grant of salary increment, ESI facility and regularization of service.

One of the protestors said that they receive a lump-sum salary of Rs 6,500 per month and if the Government cannot regularize their services then it should pay the lawful amount of Rs 21,000 per month to Anganwadi workers and Rs 18,000 per month to Anganwadi helpers.

The protestors said when the Government compulsorily retired many Anganwadi workers and helpers recently, it promised to pay a one-time compensation. However, the compensation has not been forthcoming even after four months.
