GUWAHATI: The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) celebrated the 106th birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Bharat Ratna awardee Indira Gandhi with a day-long programme at the party office at Rajiv Bhawan in Guwahati on Sunday.
A free health camp was also organized at Rajiv Bhawan on the occasion.
In the memorial meeting, as a keynote speaker, senior party leaders and former MP Bishnu Prasad said, "Indira Gandhi had made outstanding contributions to world peace as the leader of the Non-Aligned Movement. Indira Gandhi played a strong role in shaping the world's public opinion for the formation of a Palestinian state. Yet now the BJP-led Indian government is siding with Israel."
Dwijen Sarma, one of the party's vice presidents, said, "The Congress today is the result of Indira Gandhi's strong organizational contribution. Under her leadership, modern India reached a new stage."
APCC general secretary Bipul Gogoi elaborated on the overall biography of Indira Gandhi.
The health camp was inaugurated by the party's working president, MLA Zakir Hussain Sikdar. Guwahati District Congress Committee president Navajyoti Talukdar thanked everyone on behalf of the party.
The 106th birth anniversary of Prime Minister Indira Gandhi was marked by many Congress leaders and workers.
