APCC restrains Sherman Ali from making controversial statements

GUWAHATI: After the 'Miya Museum' issue stirred a controversy drawing mixed reactions from various politicos,theAssam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) has restrained Congress MLA Sherman Ali Ahmed from making such controversial statements.

In this regard, APCC president Ripun Bora wrote a letter to Ahmed and stated that his statement in different forums of media on the issue of a museum for Miya culture at SrimantaSankardevKalakshetra has given scope to the BJP (BharatiyaJanata Party) for making polarization by doing disinformation campaign and mispropaganda.

"Your letter dated October 18, 2020 to the Director of Museum, Government of Assam to follow up the recommendation of DRSC on Education 2020-2021 in its 47th Report on Art and Culture (Grant No 27) to expedite the museum reflecting the culture and heritage of the people living in Char Chaporis of Assam in SrimantaSankardevKalakshetra was in perfect order and you have done your duty as an MLA," said Bora in his letter to the MLA.

However, Bora stressed that the controversy arose due to Ahmed's reaction and statement made in media for a Miya Museum which was out of the content of the letter sent to the Director of Museum. "You may refer my tele-conversation with you on October 26, 2020 on the above issue and my suggestion to refrain from further making any statement or reaction. But despite that you have been repeatedly hammering the same matter which has given BJP and RSS to make serious controversy by dragging the name of our Congress party. Your such statement at this critical juncture on the eve of upcoming Assembly Election is totally unwanted.

Therefore, you are hereby restrained not to make any further controversial statement from now onwards," stated Bora in his letter.
