GUWAHATI: The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) staged sit in demonstration at the Rajiv Bhawan on Wednesday demanding the government to roll back fuel price hike.

Hundreds of Congress leaders and workers took part in the demonstration led by former Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, APCC president Ripun Bora and other top leaders including Rokibul Hussein, Rekibuddin Ahmed and Nandita Das.

The APCC condemned the BJP government for the continuous fuel price hike.

Talking to the mediapersons, Gogoi alleged that the BJP government is bankrupt and it has failed in every way. Gogoi said, "Starting from demonization to imposing lockdown in an unplanned way, the government has badly affected crores of people."

He added, "The people are already going through a hard time. Many have lost their jobs. Earning livelihood has become a tough job for the people of India amidst the pandemic situation. It doesn't seem that the government is paying attention to the misery of the public. The BJP government claims that the government is friend of the poor and deprived section. But in practical manner it seems actually the government is friend of the rich. The continuous price hike of petrol and diesel will affect mostly the poor and middle-class people in both a direct and indirect ways."

APCC president Ripun Bora claimed, "The BJP government destroyed the whole economy of the country in demonitization. Now, as they don't have revenue to run the country, they are harassing the public by hiking price of essential commodities."

Bora further alleged that at a time where public are decrying amidst the pandemic situation, the government being ignorant is busy in planning strategy for election. Instead of thinking about the public, the BJP is conducting virtual rallies by spending crores of rupees. Now we are left with only option that is to answer them back in the 2021 elections."
