APCC's Employees Redressal Committee calls eviction order 'ridiculous'

GUWAHATI: The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC)'s Employees Redressal Committee has termed the eviction order issued by the liquidator of Hindustan Paper Corporation Ltd (HPCL) to the employees of Nagaon and Cachar Paper Mills as "ridiculous, preposterous and devoid of any compassionate reasoning".
The liquidator of HPDCL, Kuldeep Verma had issued eviction notices to the employees of the two defunct paper mills, asking them to vacate their accommodations/quarters within 15 days. The APCC constituted a Employees Redressal Committee on September 4 to look into the order. This committee termed the eviction order as "devoid of any compassionate reasoning" and demanded that the Government of Assam should show solidarity with the employees and come forward with a relief package by meeting all their past commitments about revival of the closed mills and payment of all dues to the employees.
"The order to vacate the residential quarters without any financial guarantee, especially during the economic distress faced due to the pandemic is utterly inhuman," stated the committee. The committee said that no asset of the government should be handed over to private parties on a platter and demanded transparency on deals made with private parties. The Employees Redressal Committee was constituted under the chairmanship of Pradyut Bordoloi and vice-chairmanship of Kamalakhsya Dey Purksyastha and Jakir Hussain Sikdar.
