GUWAHATI: Bhagaduttapur police and Nagaon police have recovered many incriminating documents and various items from the house of Mridupaban Neog in the Kahilipara area during a search operation that began on Friday night and continued till Saturday.

The Police launched the operation following a tipoff from Nagaon Police concerning a fraud case (2328/21 u/s 406/420/170/171/506/507/34 IPC) registered in the Nagaon Sadar Police Station. According to the police source, a second-hand car dealer identified as Imran Hussain filed the FIR (First Information Report) against the accused, Mridupaban Neog, in the Nagaon Police Station.

Sources informed that Neog, who hails from Bokajan, had taken Rs 31 lakh from Hussain in place of his four-wheeler – a Fortuner -- two months back. However, after getting the money from Hussain, Neog reportedly stopped communication with Hussain.

On Friday night, a team comprising Nagaon police and Bhagaduttapur Police Outpost had proceeded to Neog's house for carrying out the search operation. But, Neog reportedly refused to open the front door from 1 am till 10 am on Saturday. Though the door opened at around 10 am, Neog was not in the house.

The police team found three persons inside the house. They were Neog's cook, his PSO (Personal Security Officer) from Uttar Pradesh; and a driver.

Nagaon Police have picked up the PSO and the driver for interrogation.

Police team have seized two luxury vehicles, insignias of APS and IPS; a point-32 pistol with 20 rounds of ammunition, passbooks of several banks, a sticker of 'Government of India, and many incriminating documents. Police suspect that Neog might have fled from the house in the darkness.
