Arati Das Boiragi, Dulal Roy Chosen For Natasurya Award, 2019

GUWAHATI: The State government has named noted dramatists – Dulal Roy and Arati Das Boiragi – for the Natasurya Phani Sarma Memorial Award, 2019. The award will be given away to the two dramatists on July 31 at a function to be organized by the Directorate of Culture, Assam at Rangiya. Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal will present the award.

The award carries Rs 2 lakh in cash, a citation and an angabastra.

Dulal Roy, a name that needs no introduction in the cultural arena in Assam, was born on April 1, 1943 at Guwahati. He has a number of dramas to his credit as the director. Karengor Ligiri, Siraj, Aahaar, Overbridge, Hamlet, The Lesson, Sorkari Inspector, Vedvyas, Father, Cross Purpose etc to name a few are dramas directed by him. Besides scripting dramas and directing them, he is also a good actor.

Arati Das Boiragi was born on July 15, 1942. She started her professional career as scriptwriter in All India Radio, Guwahati in 1969. Besides scripting many dramas of her own, she translated many dramas into Assamese. She is also a story writer.
