Guwahati: As many as 1.2 lakh people in Assam have been marked as D-voter, sometimes also referred to as Dubious voter or Doubtful voter, stating this Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Mukesh Sahu on Monday informed that there has been a drastic increment among D-voters since the last two elections in the state.

CEO Sahu also confirmed that those whose names were not included in the final NRC draft could still vote if their names were in the electoral rolls.

It may be mentioned that the D voters are determined by special tribunals under the Foreigners Act, and the person declared as D voter is not given the elector’s photo identity card.

CEO Sahu also further added in the press briefing, “The electoral roll has been finalized on the last date of nomination so any correction in the electoral roll will be reflected in the last date of nomination and anything after that will not be visible as per electoral rule which will differ in each of the phases of the election.”
