Around 29,829 detected foreigners pushed back since 1985 to January 2019: Home Department

Guwahati: The Home Department of the Assam Government on Monday at the ongoing Legislative Assembly session stated to a question raised by Congress legislator Abdul Khalek that around 29,829 detected foreigners have been pushed back to their native country since 1985 to January 2019.

Following a question of the numbers of D-voters in the state, the department also mentioned that as per the 1997 voter's list 2,02,092 voters, 2005 voter's list 1,60,051 voters and 1,19,559 voters till September 15, 2018 were tagged as D-voters.

The Home Department also stated that around 2,44,144 cases were filed against D-voters at the Foreigner's Tribunal. It may be mentioned that so far 1,18,328 cases till August 31, 2018 have been dispersed by the Foreigner's Tribunal. Out of which 23,437 D-voters were being identified as foreigners.

It may be mentioned that since 1985 to Jan 2019, 1547 persons were expelled under IM(D)T Act. Around 902 foreigners have been pushed back since 1985 to Jan 2019.

Also, 27,380 convicted infiltrators by the Foreigner's Tribunal had been pushed back from 1985 to Jan 2019
