GUWAHATI: "Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary and Pijush Hazarika held talks with the employees of Hindustan Paper Corporation Ltd (HPCL) on Monday and even I have had talked to them 3-4 times. We have told them that the arrear that is due to them will be paid by the State Government," said Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma while talking to media persons on Tuesday. He further said that young employees would be given jobs by the State Government as per qualification.
The liquidator of HPCL, Kuldeep Verma had issued eviction notices to the employees of the defunct Nagaon and Cacher Paper Mills, asking them to vacate their accommodations/quarters within 15 days. The Assam Government has announced a package of Rs 650 crore for the 1,000 employees of the two paper mills.
"We feel that within 3-4 months the problems of the HPCL employees will be solved," said Sarma.
When asked about expansion of his ministry, the Chief Minister said, "The ministry will not be expanded as of now. We have just formed a team. Let some days go."
At present, there are five ministerial berths vacant in the State cabinet.
