GUWAHATI: Arrested ACS officer Saibar Rahman was remanded to judicial custody on Tuesday. After his six-day custody under the Chief Minister's Special Vigilance Cell came to an end, he was produced before the court of the special judge here on Tuesday. The court forwarded him to judicial custody.

Former Dhubri Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Saibar Rahman was arrested recently by sleuths of the Chief Minister's Special Vigilance Cell on the charge of acquiring property disproportionate to his known sources of income.

According to sources, investigation by the CM's Special Vigilance Cell has revealed that there are 108 landed properties in the name of Saibar Rahman, his first wife, his second wife and his brother, in various districts of the State. There are also 28 bank accounts in the names of these four persons. The CM's Special Vigilance Cell will be moving the court for permission to seize these properties.

The CM's Special Vigilance Cell, said sources, had begun preliminary investigation in Saibar Rahman's case from April, 2021. In July, four properties were sold by Saibar Rahman. The CM's Special Vigilance Cell is likely to bring these properties also under the purview of the investigation.

Meanwhile, the CM's Special Vigilance Cell has acquired the key to Rahman's locker in State Bank of India (SBI), Hatigaon branch and the locker will be opened on Wednesday.
