GUWAHATI: A 75-member convener committee of the Minority Cell of the AJP (Asom Jatiya Parishad) was formed here on Sunday.
The full-fledged committtee will be formed on March 5.
Addressing the meeting where the convener committee was formed, AJP vice president Shamsher Singh stressed that Minority doesn't mean only Muslims.
"There are provisions for the Minorities in the Constitution. However, political parties associate the word — minority with Muslims which has paved the way for communal forces to do politics. Due to such attitude of the political parties, the Muslims are embarrassed and other minority communities are being ridiculed," Singh opined.
He underlined that the AJP is committed to separate itself from the 'Minority means only Muslims' narrative and has formed a Minority Cell with members from different communities.
