GUWAHATI: The AJP (Asom Jatiya Parishad) on Monday staged a protest against the Centre's decision to privatize the LGBI (Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International) Airport.

The protest was staged in front of the LGBI Airport under the leadership of AJP general secretary Jagdish Bhuyan where scores of AJP workers holding banners and raising slogans demonstrated. Members from AJP's sister organizations like Jatiya Yuba Shakti and Jatiya Mahila Shakti also participated.

The AJP also slammed the State government for not opposing the Center's decision to privatize the airport.

Following the protest, the AJP submitted a memorandum to North Eastern Region's Regional Executive Director of Airport Authority of India, Ramesh Kumar.

"The Airport has now been handed over to the Adani Group without any consent of the people of Assam in violation of the federal spirit of our Constitution. The people of Assam are dismayed at the decision of the Central government to hand over the Airport to the private sector," the AJP argued in the memorandum.

Lamenting against the Government, AJP GS Jagdish Bhuyan underlined that the people of Assam will never accept the Centre's decision to hand over the airport to 'capitalists'.

"The government has no right in this and the people are against its anti-public policies. Thus, to get respite from such acts, the people have decided to bid adieu to the BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) in the forthcoming polls,"
