GUWAHATI: The 'Assam Agricultural Service Association' has resented the stalling of the promotional process of officers of the Department despite the fact that various posts are lying vacant.

In a meeting held with the Agricultural Production Commissioner at the Assam Secretariat on October 8, a delegation from Members of the Association expressed their displeasure for non-fulfillment of their demands. Surprisingly, due to red tapism and issues related to their promotion, officers were deprived of their promotional benefits and officers and had to serve for nearly 27 years to 30 years in the same post. It is disheartening that on June 30, 2021, an officer had to retire from service without any promotional benefits.

The Chief Minister "very minutely observed this irregularity in the promotional process of Agricultural Officers and has passed a cabinet memorandum to undo all irregularities in the service rule and expedite the promotional process to boost their morale and working efficiency of the officers".

It added, "Surprisingly due to sheer apathy or deliberate denial of the Cabinet memorandum the entire process has not made any headway. To sight an instance, regarding the promotion of the Sub Divisional Agricultural Officers the 'Departmental Promotional Committee' which has held over five sittings could not come to any logical conclusion and this matter was also brought to the notice of the Agriculture Minister.

"However, in the meeting held on October 8, the Agricultural, Production Commissioner gave his commitment to expedite the promotional process and fill the resultant vacancies of the department immediately after the puja holidays."
