Assam Assembly Session from May 21

GUWAHATI: A three-day Assam Assembly session has been summoned by Governor Prof Jagdish Mukhi. This would be the first sitting of the 15th Assam Legislative Assembly. The session would start on May 21.
According to sources, on day one, May 21, all the newly elected 125 MLAs (barring the pro-tem Speaker) will be administered the oath of secrecy. The pro-tem Speaker will have to take oath before the Assembly Session.
On May 22, the Governor would address the Assembly and on May 24, the concluding day of the three-day Assembly session, the motion of thanks for Governor's speech has been scheduled. May 23 is Sunday therefore there will be no sitting of the Assembly.
Sources further said that Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has designated senior AGP leader and eight-time consecutive MLA from Bongaigaon, Phani Bhushan Choudhury as the pro-tem Speaker. Congress party's former Digboi MLA late Rameswar Dhanowar is the only other MLA to have won an Assembly seat eight times in a row.
In the recently concluded Assam elections 2021, BJP won 60 seats, Congress won 29, AIUDF 16, AGP won 9 seats, UPPL won 6, BPF won 4, CPI-M won 1 seat and Akhil Gogoi, president of Raijor Dal won the Sivasagar seat. This is counted as Independent.
