GUWAHATI: After Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that the lifting of the curbs in Guwahati would be done from Monday, Assam Chief Secretary Kumar Sanjay Krishna asked for public opinion on the Guwahati Unlock 1.0.

Taking to his twitter handle, Kumar Sanjay Krishna wrote, "In view of the rapid rise of Covid 19 cases in Assam, especially in Guwahati, what are your concerns and expectations for Unlock 1.0?"

Within 24 hours of the post, the Chief Secretary was bombarded with suggestions.

Most of the people stated that the lockdown is not a solution to contain the pandemic. "Government must continue to emphasize on health infrastructure, emotional support and public participation to boost capacity to tackle the virus," wrote a citizen named Shakeera Choudhury.

Another citizen named Sachi Jain lamented to the Chief Secretary that the government has not taken the advice of the people before imposing the lockdown.

"Till today the government was doing lockdown on its own. Now what is the purpose of asking the public? Do whatever you want as we are nothing, because we will have to pay house rents, school fees, electricity bill, phone or mobile bills", wrote Jain expressing his woes.

Several citizens suggested the Chief Secretary that strict rules should be imposed and night curfew should not be lifted. "Deploy as much cops as possible. People are not cooperating with the government much. As soon as shops are opened for 2-3 days they do follow but later most of them starts violating. Strong regular patrolling is a must. District administration and police are doing their best," wrote Gaurav Pratim Dey.

People also stressed that business establishments should be allowed to operate from 9 am to 4 pm to uplift the economy.

"Till the vaccine or substitute medicines are available night curfew from 7 pm to 6 am should be imposed. Wholesale markets should be allowed to run on alternative days and retailer groceries should be allowed to operate as it is currently. Most importantly weekly bazaars of vegetables and roadside vegetable vendors must not be allowed," wrote Pranjit Aditya Phukan.

People also advised the Chief Secretary that pillion riding and more than two persons in a car should not be allowed. Some also expressed that the government should appoint volunteers in to monitor the market places.Chief Secretary takes public opinion on Unlock 1.0
