Assam Chief Minister Sarbanada Sonowal on Thursday chaired a meeting of the Cabinet ministers and among the key decisions taken at the meeting, the Cabinet requested the State Election Commission to complete the election process for the Bodoland Territorial Council by 15th December.

The Cabinet recommended proclamation of the Governor's rule in BTR till elections are held. BTR has been under Governor's rule since April 27 after the polls which were scheduled for April 4 had to be postponed indefinitely due to the COVID pandemic.

The State Election Commission had recently announced that the BTC elections would be held in December but the dates are yet to be announced.

Five major decisions were taken at the Cabinet meeting held today.

The government also decided to provide funding to Gaushalas to fill up the gap in funds required to feed the cows.

An ex-gratia of Rs 10 lakh would be given to next of kin of late Raben Das, the Assam Police constable who died while trying to catch cattle smugglers. Das had drowned as he was trying to nab the smugglers.

The Cabinet also granted approval to exempt sand, steel, bitumen, etc, to be used in the construction of the proposed Majuli bridge, from state GST, royalty and local taxes.

The state government will bear the cost of land required for the approach roads of the proposed Majuli bridge, the Cabinet decided. The announcement about the Majuli bridge was made by Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari on Tuesday while laying the foundation stone for the multi-modal logistics park in Jogighopa.
