Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday launched the Chief Minister's Institutional Plantation Programme (CMIPP) at Janata Bhawan in Guwahati.
CMIPP will be run from 17 July - 15 August by the Science, Technology and Climate Change Department covering more than 80,000 institutional campuses under the Government of Assam (GoA).
The Chief Minister also urged all institutions to plant 75 saplings (Amrit Briksha) coinciding with Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav and transform CMIPP into Amrit Briksha Mahotsav.
Notably, under CMIPP, native saplings will be planted, geotagged and uploaded on the web portal followed by proper care and monitoring for the next 3 years.
He further asked the state forest department to commission Drone surveys in all reserve forest areas every six months.
He also directed the forest department to go after a zero-tolerance policy against encroachment encroachers.
