Assam Covid-19 testing is in second position, says Himanta Biswa Sarma

GUWAHATI: Assam is in second position for the conduction of COVID-19 tests in the country, said State Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma while addressing the Assam Assembly House on Tuesday.

Sarma stressed that COVID-19 mortality in Assam is the lowest in the nation. Despite this, some people are trying to do politics on the pretext of COVID-19, he opined.

"In Assam we are fighting COVID-19 on humanitarian grounds. The State government is providing free treatment to any person who is suffering from COVID-19. We are also providing plasma therapy free of cost to the patients. Even the transportation charges of the patients are free," Sarma asserted.

Further, he said recently the government has taken a decision that the patients opting for paying cabins in hospital will have to bear the rent of the same. However, his/her treatment will be free, he reiterated.

The Minister informed the House that if any person wants COVID-19 reports within 24 hours then he/she will have to deposit some amount for the tests.

If any nursing home needs plasma for patients then they will have to bear the charges of the plasma kit, he added.
