GUWAHATI: The Assam Electricity Consumers’ Association (AAECA) suspects that pre-paid smart meters could be hacked.
A rumour is doing the rounds that pre-paid smart meters can be hacked, and that has worried the association.
AAECA convener Ajay Acharjee said, "Our association was always against the installation of pre-paid smart meters as it is anti-consumers. It works for the benefit of the corporate sector. After its installation, the electricity bills increased by two or three folds, but the government did not pay attention to it. It indicates that the government is okay with the hike in electricity charges."
Acharjee further said, "The smart pre-paid meters may create discrepancies that were always doubted by us, but after this hacking of the meters, our doubts came true. We demand the installation of conventional meters. We also urge the consumers to support this decision".
