GUWAHATI: EMRI GHS 108 ‘Mrityunjoy’ Services completed 15 years of saving lives in Assam on Monday. EMRI Green Health Services (formerly GVK EMRI) started in April 2005 to provide integrated emergency response services in a public-private partnership mode with a vision to provide leadership to save 1 million lives per year nationally and establish GVK EMRI as a premier research and training institute in emergency management in a public-private partnership framework. This service was made available to the people of Assam upon signing a memorandum of understanding (MOU) by the Government of Assam and GKV-EMRI on July 8, 2008. Presently, it has 793 road ambulances all across Assam and 7 boat ambulances.

The 108 service number is accessible from a landline, mobile phone, or local telephone booth and can be dialled without any prefix or suffix. Since the inception of the Mrityunjoy Ambulance Service in Assam in 2008, the Mrityunjoy 108 service has attended to over 62 lakh emergency cases. To highlight a few of the emergency cases served out of the 62 lakh cases, almost 23 lakh were pregnancy-related, roughly 4,06632 were RTAs’, 223407 were cardiac-related, over 29,000 deliveries were done inside the 108 ambulances, and over 22,000 deliveries were assisted by our trained EMTs at the scene. In the past 15 years of service in the state, Mrityunjoy 108 has saved around 2 lakh lives in life-threatening situations.

Mrityunjoy 108 Service has integrated technology-driven solutions and, through its insightful experience of working 15 years for the state, developed the Enterprise Emergency Management System (EEMS) to improve response times, optimize resource allocation, and enhance overall efficiency in managing emergency calls and dispatching ambulances.

The 108 Service has received several accolades and appreciation from the government, local authorities, and communities for our contributions to emergency healthcare. During COVID, the then Health Minister and now Chief Minister of Assam awarded and recognized the immense work done by the 108 Team, stated a press release.
