GUWAHATI: Assam Governor Prof Jagdish Mukhi and Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma conveyed their greetings to the people of Assam on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr.

In his message to the people, the Governor said, "I extend my heartiest greetings on this holy occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr. It is a 'festival of breaking fast' and marks the culmination of the holy month of Ramadan. May we all be blessed with a renewed spirit of love and oneness for all. I wish the Almighty shower his choicest blessings upon us all on this auspicious day."

The Governor also said that the festival of Eid-Ul-Fitr is also an occasion for happiness and merrymaking which is marked by the spirit of universal brotherhood. "Eid-Ul-Fitr teaches us about self-discipline, compassion, charity and love for fellow beings", as he called upon everybody to celebrate the festival following the tenets of the occasion".

On the other hand, the Chief Minister said in a message, "On the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr, I extend my heartfelt greetings to the people belonging to Muslim community. As the festival follows the end of the fasting month Ramadan, I take the pleasure to greet all my Muslim brothers and sisters on this pious festival. On this occasion may I call upon everybody that following the true spirit of the festival, we should all work for the prosperity of our State and promotion of peace and harmony in our society. May the pious ideas associated with the festival enrich us with friendship, brotherhood, peace, prosperity, love and affection".

In a separate statement, Industries and Commerce Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary has also extended warm greetings to the people of Assam on the auspicious occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr. The Minister said, "Eid-ul-Fitr marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan. May this festival strengthen love, compassion, friendship and brotherhood among the people of Assam and usher in peace and prosperity to our state."
