GUWAHATI: As a part of his outreach programme, Assam Governor Prof Jagdish Mukhi today visited Shishu Sarothi, a community home for the children. He spent some time with the children there and announced an assistance of Rs 5 lakh to the organization.
It may be noted that Sishu Sarothi established in 1987 is a non-profit organization working in the area of child rights including early intervention and rehabilitation, education, livelihoods advocacy and awareness as well as protection of rights and legal aid of children and persons with disabilities in the Northeast.
Visiting the place, Governor Prof Mukhi expressed, "I am delighted to visit this organization and meet the beautiful children. I am even elated to see the inherent talents in the children. I am also happy to meet the staff, board members and specialized teachers of the organization who have dedicated their lives to the service of the children and other divyangs".
During his interaction with the children, he advised them to dream big and accordingly work to chase their dream.
The Governor hailed Sishu Sarothi for its endeavour of creating a conducive environment for the growth of the children. It also lauded its efforts for giving a home-like situation to its other inmates. He also asked the management to take steps for the skill development of the inmates and take help of the government schemes in this regard.
The Governor also said that India is a country where upholding human dignity is given great importance. He said that he was happy to see that Shishu Sarothi is doing its noble deeds wholeheartedly by promoting the rights of Divya Gyan for shaping a non-discriminating and barrier-free society. He at the same time asked the organization to instil the feeling of patriotism and 'Nation First' feelings amongst the children.
Executive Directors of Shishu Sarothi Ketaki Badalai and Armaan Ali, Commissioner and Secretary to the Governor SSMeenakshi Sundaram, parents of the children, staff, specialized teachers, board members along with a host of other dignitaries were also present during the Governor's visit, a press release said.
