Charge temporarily handed over to Dr Nripendra Narayan Sarma
GUWAHATI: In view of the alleged irregularities with regard to the continuation of 21 unapproved courses in GUIDOL (Gauhati University Institute of Distance & Open Learning) during 2010-17 as reflected in the report of the CAG (Comptroller & Auditor General), Assam Governor Prof. Jagdish Mukhi — in his capacity as the Chancellor of the KKHSOU) Krishna Kanta Handiqui State Open University — has placed Dr Kandarpa Das, Vice Chancellor of KKHSOU — the then Director of GUIDOL — under suspension.
The Governor also handed over the charge of the Vice Chancellor, Krishna Kanta Handiqui State Open University, temporarily, to Dr Nripendra Narayan Sarma, Professor of Department of Management of the university, until further orders.
It may be noted that following irregularities of continuing 21 unapproved courses in GUIDOL, the Gauhati University, as per the resolution of its Executive Council appointed One man Commission (Dr. Justice Aftab Hussain Saikia Commission) to enquire everything pertaining to the CAG Report in connection with continuation of unapproved courses of GUIDOL.
After going through the report, the Governor who is also Chancellor of Gauhati University is of the opinion that the then Director of GUIDOL was well aware regarding continuation of the alleged unapproved courses. The Governor is also of the opinion that the courses were being run at the will of the then Director, GUIDOL without approval of the DEC/UGC which is a mandatory provision. Following this, the Governor has placed Dr. Kandarpa Das, VC, Krishna Kanta State Open University and the then Director, GUIDOL under suspension, stated a press release.
