Guwahati: Monday morning saw a lot many smiling faces of girls in front of a two-wheeler dealer in the city. The government of Assam has earlier announced to give away scooties to all the girl students in the state who have secured 1st Division in their Class 12 boards exam. Fulfilling its promise, the government has started the registration for scooties on Monday. Many of the meritorious girl students queued up in front of a two-wheeler dealer with the relevant documents to see if they are eligible to get a scooty by the state government.
The move is under the Pragyan Bharati scheme of the Assam government. The scheme was launched by Assam Minister of Finance, Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma. Under this scheme, all the girl students who have secured 1st Division in their Higher Secondary examination will receive a scooty. The candidates had to apply online to avail the benefits of the scheme. Sarma had launched the scheme with the aim that every one of the girl students can travel to their respective colleges.
Talking about the scheme, one of the meritorious girl student who scored 86% in her higher secondary examination said, "We are happy and grateful to the Government of Assam for providing us scooties. We do not have the licence now, but we will soon get one since we are already of the legal age, that is, 18."
A two-wheeler dealer in Guwahati will hand over 1,830 scooters to meritorious girl students. Around 22,000 scooties will be given to the girl students of the state.
We hope this gesture of the state government further encourages the students to perform better in their academics.
