Assam Human Rights Commission: Bomb blast victim yet to receive compensation

GUWAHATI: The Assam Human Rights Commission (AHRC) has registered a case (Case No. 4642/22-23) on the matter of Dinesh Thakuria of Azara, who was a victim of a bomb blast but has not received the compensation amount from the Assam Government for the last 12 years.

The case was registered after a human rights activist, Monojit Singha filed a petition in the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) on behalf of Thakuria. After that, NHRC transferred the case to AHRC on April 17, 2023 to take approximate action.

Thakuria was injured in a bomb blast in Guwahati in 2009, and the State Government had announced a compensation of Rs 3 lakh for the victims. However, Thakuria did not receive the compensation amount despite several appeals. AHRC has now directed the District Magistrate of Kamrup (metro) district to provide a report from the government on the matter within 15 days.
