GUWAHATI: The AJP (Assam Jatiya Parishad) will fight against "all moves to encourage illegal infiltration which is meant to alter the population pattern in the State". It has also promised to "provide land rights to the citizens, establish a three-tier market for local, national and international produces, and also formulate short-term as well as long-term measures to tap the Brahmaputra River".
These assurances among many others have been included in the party's poll manifesto and the 'Jatiya Dristipatra' — a booklet highlighting the party's views on the burning issues of the State. The manifesto and the 'Jatiya Dristipatra' were released by AJP's chief advisors Basanta Deka and Dr Krishna Gopal Bhattacharyya in front of the media at the party's head office here on Thursday.
The party has also assured to implement the recommendations of the High Level Committee on the Assam Accord in a time-bound manner. Reiterating its opposition to the CAA (Citizenship Amendment Act), the AJP said that it will move to prepare a flawless NRC (National Register of Citizens). The party also said that it will put pressure on the Central government to seal the border with Bangladesh.
To develop the State's economy, the AJP has assured to make the masses stakeholders in the process. Promising to open at least 1 lakh job opportunities annually for the youths of the State, the AJP also assured to provide Rs 5,000 monthly for facilitating technical training of the youths, besides Rs 10,000 monthly for those youths who hail from the economically weaker section.
Among other points highlighted by the AJP are finding permanent solutions to erosion and floods; revamping the Agriculture and Education sectors; developing the economic status of the tea workers' community; freeing the Police department from political interference; resolving the issue of tribal communities of the State; and providing a boost to urban and rural areas.
The party has also announced a list of its 17 candidates for the third phase of the Assembly election in the State.
