Assam Legislative Assembly Sessions to have 50% MLAs

In conformity with the COVID-appropriate behaviour, the first session of the 15th Assam Assembly slated to be held from May 21, 2021, is to have 50 per cent attendance of the legislators at a time on a rotation basis.

GUWAHATI: In conformity with the COVID-appropriate behavior, the first session of the 15th Assam Assembly slated to be held from May 21, 2021, is to have 50 percent attendance of the legislators at a time on a rotation basis.

Talking to The Sentinel, Protem Speaker of the Assam Legislative Assembly Phani Bhushan Choudhury said, "We're people's representatives. We need to set examples in the Assembly. I appeal to all ministers and legislators to attend the Assembly session following COVID-19 protocol."

Earlier this noon, Choudhury took oath as the Protem Speaker of the State Assembly. In the absence of the Governor, as his representative Chief Secretary Jishnu Barua administered the oath of office to Choudhury at the former's conference hall at Janata Bhawan.

After taking the oath, Choudhury held a meeting with the officials of the Assam Assembly Secretariat on the preparations for the session. He also took part in a security-related meeting later.
