GUWAHATI: The Assam Madrassa Teachers' Association (AMTA) has opposed The Assam Repealing Bill 2020 which was tabled on the first day of the Assam Legislative Assembly Winter Session on Monday. AMTA president Fazaluddin Bashani and general secretary Amirul Islam stressed that the Bill will scrap all State-run madrassas and convert them into general schools.

They expressed that they didn't believe the Education Minister when he made the announcement to shutdown State-run madrassas as the madrassa education has been going on in the country even before independence.

Appealing to the Education Minister not to pass the Bill, the AMTA said he only developed the madrassas and provincialized 327 of them in 2013.

"We will not accept the Bill. If it is passed we will agitate and if necessary will move to the Court," Bashani stated. The AMTA urged the Minister to have discussions with the people to develop the madrassas and also assured the body's full cooperation with the Government.
