GUWAHATI: The Assam Legislative Assembly Secretariat (ALA) has given an additional week's time for the MLAs concerned to vacate all Assam-type quarters, which will be demolished to make way for new accommodation.

The MLAs were earlier directed to vacate the Assam-type quarters by today.

Two new buildings, including a 10-storey one, will be constructed at the site along with another building for MLAs' staff.

According to ALA Speaker Biswajit Daimary, construction work will start from September next and the buildings will be handed over to the MLAs within three years. Each MLA will be paid Rs 50,000 per month during this period to stay in rented accommodation, the Speaker said.
