GUWAHATI: The Assam Police celebrated the Police Commemoration Day at 4th APBN in Kahilipara, Guwahati on Wednesday.
Assam Police paid rich tributes to the bravehearts and their families by commemorating Smriti Parade to observe the day by remembering their sacrifices for the country.
Chief Secretary Kumar Sanjay Krishna was the chief guest of the occasion and DGP Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta among several other police officials was present.
"The contribution and selfless service of the army jawans and police to the society is not comparable to anyone. Numerous police and Army jawans have lost their lives by doing their service. I pay my respect to all the fallen soldiers from my heart," said the Chief Secretary.
DGP Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta said the Assam Police has taken a 10-day long special programme to pay tribute to martyred police officers. The programme started from Wednesday and will end on October 31.
He said to pay respect to the sacrifices, the police officers will visit the residences and schools of all the martyred policemen across the State.
The Assam Police appealed to the government to rename some schools in the name of the fallen policemen. Mahanta added the department has received a positive response from the government regarding the renaming of schools. It is to be mentioned that the day is observed every year to pay homage to the 10 CRPF jawans who laid down their lives battling the Chinese Army in Ladakh's Hot Spring area.
