Guwahati: The witty meme of " DJ Lock-up" spread by the Assam police through social media has garnered wide appreciation across the country.

Elaborating on the reason for making and spreading the meme, Guwahati Police Commissioner Harmeet Singh told the media that they wanted to take a novel step to create awareness among the people.

He further said that exceptional thing always draws people's attention. According to him, the police main objective behind the novel creative step is to primarily draw the attention of the youths.

He also said that the police don't want to impose penalties on anyone, but they want to create awareness so that human lives could be saved.

"Our DJ Lock-up meme has gone viral on the internet and we have been receiving appreciation from the people almost across the country. Our main objective is to create awareness so that human lives could be saved", he added.

Stating that the government has no aim to impose restrictions on the people's lives, the City Police Commissioner urges all to avoid drinking and drive.

"All can celebrate and enjoy New Year's Eve. But everyone should be careful and we appeal to all to avoid drink and drive for their own safety," Singh said.

Earlier, today, the Assam Police on its social media platforms has shared a meme containing a sarcastic message to the people, who do drink and drive. In the message, it was said that the drunk drivers could be the guests of the police's 'DJ Lock-up'.

It can be noted that Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has taken a stringent step against drunk drivers and bike riders and directed the Assam police to ensure that no road accident takes place during the New Year celebrations in the state due to liquor consumption.
