GUWAHATI, : IGP (Administration), in a press statement, informed the officials of the Assam Police that without prior permission from the DGP they should not talk to the media.

In the order, the IGP said, “It is noticed that police officers in the districts and organisations are giving bytes to the electronic media and press without prior permission from the police headquarters. Sometimes, it is seen that, knowingly or unknowingly, the officers express their views on policy-related matters publicly.”

He added, “In view of the above, I am directed to issue this advisory to be careful in the future while speaking in public or in the press and not to express your views on policing or policy-related subjects without the approval of the Director General of Police, Assam.”
