Assam Police Wives Welfare Association donates 37 oximeters

GUWAHATI: The Assam Police Wives' Welfare Association on Tuesday donated 37 pulse oximeters to the Pratishruti Cancer &PalliativeTrust to help those COVID-19 infected persons or families who cannot afford to purchase such valuable gadget.

The APWWA members Swapnali Mahanta and Ruchi Borah donated the oximeters to Aaditi Barua and Roonjyoti Hazarika. Both Barua and Hazarika are closely associated with execution of the COVID Sentinel project of the Assam Police in association with Pratishruti Trust. The project is closely monitoring the Covid patients in home isolation and helping them as much as possible by offering them various logistical support including foods, medicines and oximeters.

Dr Gayatri Gogoi, Assistant Professor of Pathology Department at the Assam Medical College & Hospital, Dibrugarh — who heads the COVID Sentinel project recently told The Sentinel that non-availability of pulse oximeters among 30% virus-infected persons in home isolation is a matter of serious concern as oxygen saturation often pushes patients into a critical phase. She said that since these patients don't have money to purchase oximeters, Pratishruti Trust has already distributed 20 oximeters free-of-cost among the COVID patients.

Dr Gogoi while thanking the Assam Police Wives' Welfare Association for its gesture, said those cannot afford to buy oximeters could contact the Pratishruti Trust to avail the same.
