Assam Power Distribution Company Limited moves to rein in e-rickshaw owners

GUWAHATI: The Assam Power Distribution Company Limited (APDCL) has decided to crack down on misuse of domestic electricity connection by e-rickshaw owners who charge the batteries of their respective vehicles at their homes.

Talking to The Sentinel, an APDCL official said that e-rickshaw owners have been asked to apply for an additional LT-Electric Vehicle Charging category of power connection for charging the batteries of their respective vehicles.

A public appeal in this connection has been already made via the sub-divisional offices of the APDCL, the sources said.

The sources added that the APSCL will initiate action under Section 126 of the Electricity Act against persons who continue to use domestic power connection to charge the batteries of their respective vehicles.
