GUWAHATI: The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) staged a three-hour protest in all petrol depots in the State against, what it said, failure on the part of the government in checking the rise in petrol and diesel prices.
Ten-twenty Congress workers staged the protest in all petrol depots in the State. The party said that this government totally failed to check the rise in prices of petrol, diesel, LPG, essential commodities etc.
APCC president Ripun Bora was present in this protest at petrol pumps in Gohpur town.
In a statement issued to the media, APCC general secretary and media department chairperson Bobbeeta Sharma said that the protest was staged in all blocks under the District Congress Committees against the rising prices of petrol and diesel.
When the UPA was in power despite the fact that the price of international crude was high, the Dr Manmohan Singh Congress-led Government ensured that it did not affect the common man and kept petrol and diesel prices low and affordable, she said, and added, "But during the BJP Government despite the fact that international crude oil price being low the benefit has not reached the common man. The rising petrol diesel prices have led to increased prices of essential commodities."
She further said that demonetization and Covid-driven sudden lockdown devastated the people of the State. "The BJP government has proved to be anti-poor and anti-people with no effort to control increasing petrol-diesel prices and that of other essential commodities. Tomorrow when the PM will arrive in Assam he has to answer all these questions that affect each and every common man," she added.
