GUWAHATI: The Assam Pradesh Youth Congress staged a Jail Bharo Andolan on Saturday demanding scrapping of the CAA (Citizenship Amendment Act) and release of Youth Congress president Kamrul Islam Choudhury and other leaders from police custody. The protestors were detained by the administration.

While the Jail Bharo Andolan was going on at the Manabendra Sarma Complex, an advocates’ meeting of the BJP was going on at the PWD convention and training centre on the issue of CAA 2019. The Rapid Action Force, CRPF and Assam Police personnel were deployed there to maintain land and order.

Youth Congress protestors were about to go to Dispur, but the police stopped and detained them, number over 100.

The Congress leaders including Ex Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, Rakibul Hussain, Ripun Bora and many others delivered their speech earlier at the protest meeting and said that the party would continue its fight against the CAA till it is repealed. Rakibul Hussain said that history says that the Congress is never frightened of going to jail and that it is always against oppressive policy.
