GUWAHATI: Ratul Kumar Jakharia has created a new record in terms of fast walking in India. He has managed to get his name listed in the India Book of Records for walking one hundred kilometres within the shortest period of time.

The record-setter, Ratul Kumar Jakharia is an employee with the Airports Authority of India and is currently posted at the serving Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in the city of Guwahati. He has set a new record in the India Book of Records to cover one hundred kilometre walk in sixteen and half hours.

Ratul Kumar Jakharia started the hundred-kilometre-long walk at 4.03 am on November 7 from the Azara Police Station in Guwahati. He managed to reach Singora in Boko before returning to the starting point, the Azara Police Station at 8.38 pm the same day. He covered 100 kilometres within 16 hours and 35 minutes. He was 55 years 10 months and 7th days old on the day he set the record, that is on 11 November 2022.

Representatives of the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport and representatives of the Azara Sports club organised a grand felicitation function to celebrate the event. Ratul Kumar Jakharia officially received the certificate from the Chief Operating Officer of the Guwahati International Airport Limited, Snehasis Dutta. He took up the endeavour under the Azara Sports Club, members of which were also present for the event.

In order to promote a healthy lifestyle, the GAIL authorities recently organised a table tennis tournament for its employees. It started on December 12 and concluded on December 21 at the GIAL Administrative office building. The organisation mentioned that more than 50 of its employees participated in this sporting event. While speaking at the prize distribution event, the Chief Airport Officer of GIAL, Utpal Baruah mentioned the importance of sports and added that the organisation will be working towards more indoor as well as outdoor sporting events.
