GUWAHATI: Employees of the Chandrapur-based Assam State Fertilizers and Chemicals Limited (ASFCL) have not received their salaries for the last five years.

The ASFCL, which is under the Assam Industrial Development Corporation (AIDC), currently has around 30 employees. According to one of the affected employees, ASFCL had stopped since January, 2015 and the employees have not received salaries since May, 2017.

The corporation was established in 1962 and it was taken over by the State Government in 1988. Successive Governments had announced th the corporation would be revamped, but it was not done. ASFCL mainly produced mixed and green sulphur, which is mainly used as a fertilizer in tea gardens. It also produced sulphuric acid and single super phosphate. However, the corporation had to stop production due to protracted neglect by the Government. ASFCL had over 200 employees, but the majority has been forced to turn to other means of livelihood, including daily wage work.
