Assam State Primary Teachers' Association discusses grievances with DEE

GUWAHATI: The Assam State Primary Teachers' Association (ASPTA) has held discussions with the Directorate of Elementary Education (DEE) regarding 23 unresolved issues of Government primary school teachers of the State.

Talking to The Sentinel, ASPTA general secretary Ratul Chandra Goswami said that the Director of Elementary Education assured them that the DEE will resolve as many issues as it can, but thorny issues will be forwarded to the State Government for consideration.

Referring to the issues flagged by the ASPTA, Goswami said that they are demanding that the Gunotsav 2022 be held only after at least two teachers are appointed in each primary school which have only one teacher or no teacher at all at present. They are also seeking that the long-deferred examination for award of the Chief Minister's Special Scholarship be held expeditiously, he said.

The ASPTA is also demanding that that the Government should provide separate exercise books and evaluation books for students of primary schools.

Goswami informed that they are also demanding that the services of contractual teachers be regularized and brought under the jurisdiction of the DEE. Further, the ASPTA is seeking payment of enhanced 34 per cent DA to the contractual teachers.

The ASPTA also wants that speedy implementation of the Government's decision to create headmasters' posts in primary schools, along with restoration of Grade Pay to graduate teachers of primary schools.
