GUWAHATI: The All Assam Government NPS Employees’ Association (AAGNPSEA), supported by various Government Employees’ Associations, has initiated a state-wide agitation across Assam. The collective voice is demanding the restoration of the Old Pension Scheme (OPS), vehemently opposing the existing New Pension System (NPS). The working community seeks security through the reinstatement of the OPS, and they have democratically taken to the streets to express their concerns.
The “mass stirring” program, named Gana Aloran, has enveloped all corners of Assam, with the primary objective of safeguarding the interests of government employees. Today marks the initiation of a strike in the first phase of this movement. Protest meetings and dharnas have been organized in district and sub-division headquarters, accompanied by the submission of a mass-signed memorandum to the Chief Minister of Assam through the District Commissioner.
Despite facing obstacles from the District Administration in Guwahati, particularly in Chachal, the protest leaders, President Achyutananda Hazarika and General Secretary Apurba Sarma, express their commitment. They emphasize that the agitation will persist until a conclusive positive result is obtained from the government.

The protest, initiated on January 20, 2024, is set to culminate on January 31, 2024, at West Boragaon Primary School ground in Guwahati.
