Guwahati: After it was closed for over ten months due to the
Covid 19 pandemic the Assam State Zoo-cum-Botanical Garden is likely to reopen
from January 1, 2021 with the beginning of the New Year. Although the visitors
have been asked to follow strict regulations of the government while visiting
the Zoo. This was informed by State's Minister of Excise, Forest &
Environment and Fisheries Parimal Shuklavaidya during the officially reopening
programme of the Zoo on Thursday.
The price of the tickets will remain same as it was before. However, no tickets will be sold at the counter. Visitors must purchase tickets in online mode to prevent the spread of infection among the masses.
According to a media report, there will be booking personnel at the gate who will assist the ticket booking online for those who don't have access to the internet.
The zoo has been closed for at least ten months due to the corona-virus outbreak . The zoo authorities took the decision keeping in mind the safety of the animals and to protect them from the Covid 19 infection. However, the authorities of the Zoo decided to reopen it from January 2.
Speaking to the media Minister Parimal Shuklavaidya, said, "If public wants to visit here and enjoy from Tomorrow (January 1), on the first day of the year, we will discuss about this with the senior officials and if we can manage definitely we will reopen from Tomorrow itself."
According to a media report Tejas Mariswamy, the divisional forest officer of the state Zoo said that initially, it was supposed to reopen from the December 1, but due to the recurrence of Covid-19 the Zoo remained closed.
He further said, a SOP has been issued for the reopening. And visitors have been asked to follow all the Covid 19 protocol strictly to prevent the spread of the virus.
