Guwahati: Located in the capital city of Assam, Assam State Zoo is home to around more than 1000 animals from over 110 species. After almost eight months, Zoo will reopen for the visitors on December 1. "Zoo was closed since March 17," said an official of the Assam State Zoo.

The timings for the visitors would be from 8-11 am and 1-4 pm. The authorities will let maximum 900 people enter the Zoo in a day, in two batches. Every hour 150 people will be allowed to enter the zoo. The tickets of entry would be the same, however, the mode of ticket transaction will be online this time. The main attractions would be the lion and tiger cubs and hippo baby born during the lockdown period. The other attractions would be the red kangaroo, a pair of Capuchin monkeys and six Hyacinth macaws seized from smugglers.

"A pair of Zebra will be transported from Mysore Zoo. It has been approved by the Government of India," said the official. Work is going on to build another encloser behind Girrafe's encloser, which is expected to be completed by December or January. "Once it is completed, we will immediately bring the pair of Zebra, which is a very rare species," the official further added.

However, the Zebras would be first kept in the breeding centre. The official said, "our main target is to make these species the permanent members of our zoo."
